When a promotional rep from Paramount Pictures invited funnymen Buck and Clint Vrazel to a pre-screening of Star Trek, not even the Vrazels knew the event would create such a stir for their comedic brainchild, Twinprov.
Before the screening began, the Vrazels were speaking to a women who worked for The Oklahoman. Upon finding out they were comedians, she asked the brothers to do an impromptu rap about Star Trek. They improvised, and she liked the beat-boxed rap. Later, they were invited to perform the rap in front of 400 people at the next screening.
Buck and Clint are both members of Oklahoma City's Red Dirt Improv, and former players in the University of Oklahoma's Obviously Unrehearsed Improv! troupe. They have been playing improv together for nine years. Clint had been thinking about how life was changing — he was looking to move to a bigger city — and he knew that before he went, he wanted to do a two-man show with his twin brother. Twinprov was formed, and the Vrazels do stand-up, improv, write funny songs and just tell stories about their lives.
"We didn't do any research for the Star Trek rap," Clint said. "There are just magic moments, and they stick with us."
The Oklahoman wants Twinprov to do similar things for all the "geeky" movies coming out over the summer, Clint said, because "it's easy to connect to people." Look for improv hits for Harry Potter, The Terminator, G.I. Joe and more over the next few months.
